TEACHER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST
Every year before school starts, Project Scholars partners with the South Lake Chamber to honor the Teachers of the Year at the annual appreciation breakfast. Almost 1,000 teachers and administrators are served breakfast and presented with goody bags, prizes and awards as a way to help kick off the new school year and thank educators for all they do for the children and families of the South Lake community.
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT MENTORING
Because we recognize challenges of higher education aren’t limited to finances, each scholarship recipient is paired with a mentor, usually a community member involved in the student’s chosen career field. Our personal involvement with each student communicates how important they are to our organization and community, and the financial support coupled with our mentor program provides a strong combination for increased success at the undergraduate level.
PARTNERSHIP WITH NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
Almost from the beginning, Pig on the Pond has been partnering with South Lake non-profit organizations who participate in the festival as a means to conduct fundraising for educational purposes. Twenty non-profit groups participated in the 2018 festival including local Boy Scout groups, the Caribbean American Association of Lake County and Special Olympics, selling a variety of foods such as funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers and lemonade.
